Central School and SIMA (Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity) have entered
into a partnership in education. This partnership with the Navy began with
the 1995-96 school year and has served to provide mutual assistance and benefit
through shared time and resources. This has promoted positive awareness of
public education and has enhanced the image of the Navy within the community
by developing supportive relationships among students and staff and military
personnel.
Central School students have benefited tremendously by the time and effort
devoted to the school by Navy volunteers who have provided the following:
motivational assembly during the Red Ribbon, "Just Say No" week, coordination
of the Jog-A-Thon to raise funds for sixth grade camp, Jump for Heart event,
and many other special events. Most importantly, SIMA volunteers have provided
weekly assistance in tutoring Central School students in reading. They have
served as advisors for Student Council and have sponsored monthly good citizen
and academic awards assemblies by providing certificates to exemplary students.
SIMA has become an integral part of the day to day operation of Central
School and these efforts are much appreciated by the staff, students, and
the community.
