We are proud of the high quality of the employees of National School District. Each month we recognize an Employee of the Month. Annually, we celebrate Teacher of the Year and Classified Employee of the Year. Here are our current award winners. We appreciate their dedication and hard work.

Teacher of the Year


Natalia Morales
Teacher of the Year, 2014
 
Ms. Morales was hired by National School District as a Kindergarten teacher at Rancho de la Nación School. She has taught Kindergarten and first grade at Rancho de la Nación and El Toyon Schools. Ms. Morales is currently teaching a Kindergarten Bilingual class at El Toyon School and has been working for National School District for 12 years.

Ms. Morales’ greatest strengths include her strong professional involvement, exceptional community leadership, and her support and guidance to her colleagues. Her involvement in several school and District committees demonstrates her willingness to learn, adapt, and apply the best teaching methodologies. She is an expert ELL educator who exhibits all the qualities of a teacher who strives to improve and add to her bilingual teaching repertoire.

Ms. Morales believes all students come with something special to offer and it is her obligation to build upon that. She believes that teaching consists of constant evaluation of oneself and that one must be open minded and flexible to teach. She motivates and provides her students with the essential skills they need to reach their potential and become successful in their educational journey.

As a kindergarten teacher she believes that building a strong foundation for her students is a must, it is up to her to set the tone that will lead her students to love school and become lifelong learners. Her most rewarding aspect about teaching is the difference she makes everyday as her students gain more knowledge and become more excited about education.

Claudine Clarken
Teacher of the Year, 2013
 
Ms. Clarken was hired by National School District as a third grade teacher at Ira Harbison School, a position she holds to this day. She has been working for National School District for nine years.

Ms. Clarken’s greatest strengths include her incredible ability to get to know her students academically and personally, and her innate ability to reflect on her practice. Her range of knowledge of her students consistently impresses all staff, as well as how she differentiates and caters lessons to meet their individual needs. Her initiative to create and her skill at adapting her lessons based on the latest professional research is beyond that of her peers.

Ms. Clarken believes that students learn most when empowered to be the drivers of their own learning experience. She feels that students must be given authentic opportunities to create, research, ask questions, and to lead. Getting to know her students is vital for Ms. Clarken. Her students feel respected, safe, and excited to learn. As a result, her students consistently finish third grade with a clear understanding of their own strengths, strong thinking, problem solving skills, and pride of their own success.

Classified Employee of the Year


Marcela Gonzalez
Classified Employee of the Year, 2014
 
Ms. Gonzalez was hired by National School District as an Instructional Assistant at Lincoln Acres School. She has worked at Kimball, Lincoln Acres and El Toyon Schools. Ms. Gonzalez currently holds an Instructional Assistant Special Education position at El Toyon School and has been working for National School District for 16 years.

Ms. Gonzalez’s greatest strengths include her patient, attentive, caring, and loving ways with children. She is well known for her willing spirit, energy, and for her impeccable organizational skills.

Ms. Gonzalez is passionate about her job, she is always courteous and helpful to the students she works with. She is an extraordinary Instructional Assistant and an integral part of the Special Educational Program at El Toyon School.

Irene Jerauld
Classified Employee of the Year, 2013
 
Ms. Jerauld was hired by National School District as a Library Assistant at John Otis School. She has worked at John Otis and Olivewood Schools. She currently holds the Library Media Specialist position at John Otis and Olivewood Schools and has been working for the National School District for 22 years.

Ms. Jerauld’s greatest strengths include her dedication and knowledge of library information.

Ms. Jerauld works hard to keep the Olivewood and the John Otis libraries running smoothly. She has a great deal of knowledge about the Accelerated Reader Program and helps coordinate the Read Across America Day. Her extreme willingness to go “above and beyond” the call of duty makes her an asset to the staff and students at Olivewood and John Otis Schools.
